A house worthy of Granville Bennett
WE LIKE: The way the Virginia Creeper forms small green ‘clouds’ over the kitchen. The way the kitchen ‘floats’ over an immaculate sea of green. Yorkshire in general.
A Scotsman’s home is his castle. Sometimes literally, as at this stunning 30-acre estate in Galashiels.
WE LIKE: Castles, kitchens, and any combination of the two. The unexpected marriage of a modern outdoor kitchen amidst such heritage.
We get many photos of outdoor kitchens, but not that many have dinner laid out ready. Table-scaping is an art in itself, and this ‘scape captures the essence of what we know as a summer BBQ… but taken to the next level.
WE LIKE: The effort this garden designer went to to send us the perfect photo. Thanks Sam!
The English Garden. Not sure if there’s room amongst your beds for an outdoor kitchen? Right there, between the obelisk and the beech hedge, would be perfect.
WE LIKE: The compactness and elegance. The fact that from elsewhere in the garden this little haven would be invisible. The thought of using an outdoor kitchen to prepare cucumber sandwiches.
Today’s forecast: Patchy green cloud cover with gentle lilac showers.
WE LIKE: The trees (are they trees?). The setting is beautiful, the Grillo kitchen is expertly laid out, the integrated garden bar, the patio is wonderful, the weather’s lovely. But it’s the trees…
MOST TOP LEVEL
Next time you’re over Birmingham in a helicopter, keep an eye out for a rooftop that has a running track around an outdoor kitchen. It’s called the Mercian.
WE LIKE: That we live in a world where a designer can say “Let’s build a skyscraper that has a running track on top!” And someone else says “Great idea!” and forks out £260m to fund it. And includes a few Grillo kitchens on the roof terrace for good measure.
We were running out of MOSTs but this one was too good to miss out.
WE LIKE: Many things. The pool/kitchen combo. The mature lush planting. The fact that the owner has managed to fit a sizeable party pad (including 4 BBQs) into the garden, whilst retaining the idyllic and calming nature of a proper British garden.
