A FIRESIDE CHAT WITH TIM HORNER
Tim Horner is an Aussie garden designer who has lived and worked in Great Britain for 25 years, and has been using Grillo in his projects for 5 years. We sat down with him to discuss all things outdoor living and outdoor kitchens, listen in below!
Tim, on English gardens
“English gardens have transformed a lot, from that sort of quaint brick path with lavenders down the side, to these big blockbuster outdoor living spaces. People want to want to be out in their gardens, doing what they do inside – but outside.
People are starting to become much more aware that they need to integrate their internal space with the outside space. So when we are designing gardens, a lot of what we do in those early design stages is coming up with a list of needs and wants, and a big ticket item for us has been the outdoor kitchen – and has been for the last 10 years!
Grillo has been a real winner for us because the appearance is just super sleek. And it’s unfussy. It matches in with pretty much any design style that we’re trying to achieve. All the materials are super tough and really designed to be outside. And the grey porcelain worktops are really easy to take care of. And that neutral colour scheme with the nice sleek lines has worked in with any design that we do.”
An Aussie's take on English weather
“Coming from Australia, you don’t typically associate the UK with being outside… but actually some of the best summers I’ve had in my life are in this country! You can really get some cracking weather here, and what you find is that people really want to be outside and embrace that weather, when it is good. They want to be able to go out and enjoy it, you know.
And I think that’s why they’re really interested in investing their money in their outdoor living space, in their garden, in their roof terraces – wherever they can get away with it really!”
